Account & Backup

Create an account to save your settings to the cloud, sync across devices, and keep your data safe.

Creating an Account

Headstart uses Firebase Authentication for account management. You can sign up using your email address and a password, or use Google single sign-on for a faster setup.

1

Open the Account page

Click your avatar or the account icon in the top navigation bar, then select "Account" or navigate directly to the account page from your new tab.

2

Choose your sign-in method

Enter your email and password, or click "Sign in with Google" for one-click authentication.

3

You're signed in

Your account page will show your profile information and backup controls.

Cloud Backup

Once signed in, you can back up your Headstart data to the cloud. Backups are stored on our secure backend and linked to your account.

What gets backed up

You can choose which data groups to include in your backup:

Notes

All your website notes and annotations created through Commander or the notes page.

History

Your frequently visited pages data — the list of top sites that appear in your Frequently Visited widget.

Bookmarks

Saved bookmarks and bookmark folders from the bookmarks widget.

Quick Access

Your Quick Access items — URLs, colors, images, videos, files, and notes you've saved to the speed dial.

How to back up

1

Go to your Account page

2

Click "Backup" — a modal will appear with the data groups listed above

3

Select the groups you want to back up (Notes and Quick Access are selected by default)

4

Confirm — your data is sent to our backend and stored securely

Restoring Your Data

Restoring will overwrite your current local data with the data from your latest cloud backup. This is useful when setting up Headstart on a new device or recovering from data loss.

1

Go to your Account page and click "Restore"

2

Confirm the restore action — this will replace your current data

3

Your backed-up data is written back to local storage. Refresh your dashboard to see the restored data.

Important

Restore is a destructive action — it overwrites your current local data. Make sure you want to proceed before confirming. You may want to create a fresh backup first.

Premium Subscription

A premium subscription unlocks integration widgets (GitHub, Figma, Notion, Jira, Linear) and premium developer tools. You can subscribe from the pricing page or upgrade directly from the account page.
