Keyboard Shortcuts
Configure a custom keyboard shortcut to open Commander from any webpage. All Chromium-based browsers let you override the default keybinding.
Default Shortcut
By default, Commander opens with:
macOS
⌘ Cmd + ⇧ Shift + AWindows / Linux
Ctrl + Shift + ACustomizing in Chrome
Chrome (and other Chromium browsers) allow you to override extension keyboard shortcuts. Follow these steps:
Open Extensions Page
Type chrome://extensions in your address bar and press Enter. Or click the puzzle piece icon in your toolbar and select "Manage Extensions".
Open Keyboard Shortcuts
Click the menu icon (☰) in the top-left corner, then select "Keyboard shortcuts" from the bottom of the sidebar. You can also navigate directly to chrome://extensions/shortcuts.
Find Headstart
Scroll down or search for "Headstart" in the list of extensions with customizable shortcuts.
Set Your Shortcut
Click the shortcut field next to "Open Command Palette" (labeled "open-commander"). Press your desired key combination on your keyboard. For example, Ctrl+Shift+Space or Ctrl+Period.
You're Done
Close the settings tab and try your new shortcut on any webpage. Commander should open with your custom keybinding.
Other Chromium Browsers
The process is similar in other Chromium-based browsers like Edge, Brave, Vivaldi, and Opera:
Edge
Go to edge://extensions/shortcuts
Brave
Go to brave://extensions/shortcuts
Vivaldi
Go to vivaldi://extensions/shortcuts
Opera
Go to opera://extensions/shortcuts
Tips for Choosing a Shortcut
- Avoid shortcuts that conflict with common browser or website shortcuts (like Ctrl+T for new tab or Ctrl+W for close tab).
- Good choices include Ctrl+Shift+Space, Ctrl+Shift+E, or Ctrl+Shift+Period.
- You can use Ctrl or Shift in combination with letters, numbers, function keys, or punctuation.
- On macOS, Ctrl in the browser maps to Command on your keyboard.
- If a shortcut doesn't work, it may conflict with another extension's shortcut. Try a different combination.
